One of my favorite shows of 2013 was Ken Stringfellows final SXSW show at The Brass House. Getting to see this show and talk about it with Jody Stephens was one of my favorite moments. (Id met Jody and his wife back in 1998 at when he showed me around the temple of sound, Ardent Studios in Memphis. He didnt remember me . . . thankfully. He was friendly and gracious and gushed over Kens new album and the show) Mike A. posted posted a video about how derivative much of the country music of 2013 was. It reminded me of this tongue-in-bruised-cheek country ballad from Ken S. (w/ Margaret Cho). Albeit a bit derivative, for Ken thats the whole point. Hes one step ahead of all of us as usual.
