One of my favorite things about this job is getting to meet some awesome people. I believe I just met one of the coolest ever. I was walking into the gas station to buy a Snickers Ice Cream bar when I saw a man with a bicycle. He was filling a several water bottles and had a large backpack on. I started talking to him and I noticed he had a thick Australian accent. I asked where he was headed, because it was obvious he wasnt your average cyclists and I knew he was traveling long distance. He proceed to tell me that he flew to Los Angeles from Australia. Once he got to LA, he traveled to San Diego where he started his journey across the US. His destination: Florida! Hes been traveling across the country for 3-4 months. He told me after Florida, hes riding up the east coast to New York! Thats an incredible journey. He said he rode the southern coast of Australia before coming to America. Just out of curiosity, I asked him what made him want to do that. His answer? Thats how he gets to travel the world. He doesnt have to pay for gas, just buy food and water. After he finishes here, he wants to do the same thing in Europe, granted its not too cold. If it is, he plans on going to the Mediterranean. While talking to him, it was clear as day this guy, John, was the real deal and was not pulling my leg. I shook his hand and wished him a safe journey. Truly the most memorable interaction someone at work! -Axe
