One of my favourite photos: 2 little children (they cant have been more than 2 or 3 yrs old) in a double pram snacking on a wurst - it shocked me as i never imagine little ones being able to eat sausages at such young age! The famous Berlin sculpture (a broken link signifying disconnect between East & West). Very nice to see the Trabant (car made of non metal body) and famed Checkpoint Charlie, Berlin cathedral etc etc Was the first time id seen a steam train (silly guy they were thinking rushing to get a photo) when i was in KarlMarx Stadt (today known as Chemnitz)- I took a wrong turn in the snow & dark morning, skidded ended on a path (which i decided to follow) towards a tiny village. I remember being shocked seeing people drinking beer at 9am in the morning! They too, looked more shocked to see me (my then non coloured female companion who could speak german and 7 other languages told me that they had never seen before a coloured man (not white) before in their village - only on the TV!)... they really looked shocked enough to worry me.... I was glad but disturbed to hear this.. fortunately after a beer or 2, i was calm enough to drive off... as my companion got directions (she was a good photographer, navigator and very useful keeping me warm in those cold winter nights too - thats how i learnt i want you in 7 languages!) and i went on way way off to the Czech republic.. Fortunately i stayed in very nice hotels in the east Germany (Leipzig, Weimar, Dresden, Berlin) as in those days i was doing some writing and was a guest of the german government... who paid for the hotels!
