One of my messages to my fellow Americans who wonder why there are so many Filipinos--and other immigrant groups--in the U.S.: We are here because you were there. The Philippines, a former U.S. territory, and a close ally of America, is home to about 100 million people. Its the 12th most populous country in the world, behind Mexico, and Filipinos are the third largest immigrant group in the U.S., behind Mexicans and Chinese. I am Filipino and I am American--in the same vein that Italians, Irish, Germans, etc., are. Thank you, maraming salamat, to the team at Rappler, for recognizing that.
