Ida Simpson (Covington) Susan Covington (Pyle) William Pyle, Jr. Dr. William Pyle William Pyle Dr. John Pyle Samuel Bushell Pyle Biography Information taken from pgs of Pyle Family History 1594-1954, written by Lela Livingston, Florence Tait, Homer Pyle, and R. Dean Goodwin. Samuel Pyle was born in Concord, Pennsylvania, December 21, 1700. He was a son of Nicholas and Abigail (Bushell) Pyle. The old brick house in which he was born was still being used as a dwelling in 1883 by the family of Benjamin W. Passmore. This house was built by Nicholas Pyle, the father of Samuel, in 1699. Samuel Pyle married Sarah Owen in 1721. Not much was discovered about her, but some researchers believe she is related to the Trego family. Some people claim that Samuel may have been married in England while he was attending college there. This surmise may be correct, as he was apparently only twenty years old at the time of his marriage, and we know that he did attend medical college in England. It was customary in those days in the Pennsylvania Colony, for the well-to-do planters to send their sons to England to be educated. On his return to Pennsylvania from England Dr. Samuel Pyle and his good wife Sarah settled in Kennett where he had a distinguished career as a physician. The will of Nicholas Pyle shows that son Samuel inherited 257 acres in Kennett from his fathers estate. Dr. Samuel Pyle was a Quaker but the records say that he was married in 1721 out of meeting. It is assumed that he and his wife Sarah were both Quakers. Samuel had a sister named Mary. Joseph Sharp, husband of Mary, left a will in which he expressed a desire that Samuel Pyle should have the care of his son, Samuel Sharp, until he was 21. Dr. Samuel Pyle died in 1749 in Kennett and then his widow, Sarah Pyle, married David Eckhow, April 18, 1754, at Kennett. Dr. Samuel Pyle left a will , dated December 18, 1749 which was proven January 26, 1750. He bequeathed: To Sarah, my house and lands. Daughters, Ann and Betty 15 pounds each at 18. Nicholas, John, Edith Harlan and Sarah are also mentioned in the will. Source: Livingston, Lela & Tate, Florence & Pyle, Homer & Goodwin, R. Dean.
