One of our lovely readers who from her handwriting appears not terribly young, who doesnt have a computer has written in.... My rough-coated Lurcher has a solid hard lump on the tail end of her spine. Tests reveal only unidentified cells within it, and her blood tests are normal. It doesnt cause her any pain despite growing steadily since January. She is happy, runs fast and is around 8-9 years old. Does anyone have any experience of similar lumps on the spine they can share? If removed, did it grow back? Has anyone had a scan done on a lump? I was quoted £2,500 for a scan – can a scan be done for less? Her food is varied – cooked chicken and high-quality dried or tinned food. One theory of mine is that the growth hormone that chickens are fed has contributed to the lump. Im just worried sick for her. I dont know whether to risk surgery or risk leaving it. - A reader We will print out and post any responses. My instinct would be to leave it alone unless it grows rapidly or becomes painful. How about you? And how much for a scan?? Blimey. Or get it removed without the scan if the vet will do it.
