One of our most pressing challenges for protecting the natural - TopicsExpress

One of our most pressing challenges for protecting the natural world is working with our local communities to understand the great natural resources they have while making the most of the opportunities they provide. Stewarding our forests, lakes, streams, wildlife and ag land in a way that is sustainable for our northern Michigan rural communities is a high priority at Huron Pines. To see at other examples in the United States, check out this link to view a number of interesting case studies about vibrant rural communities. Each community is a little different, but they each have some assets they’ve capitalized on and have some lessons that can be applied in our own up north. We’re proud to announce that we are starting a similar effort in the Rifle River Watershed, thanks to support from the Saginaw Bay Watershed Initiative Network, The Conservation Fund, and the encouragement of a number of business and conservation partners. Speaking of the connection between the environment and the economy, that’s the theme of our Annual Meeting this year. Be sure to save the date of our gathering of conservation and community leaders February 28th. This will be an excellent opportunity to connect with leaders working for the good of northern Michigan and our speakers will include a keynote address by Jon Allan, Director of the Office of the Great Lakes, and a guest presentation by Kendra J. Briechle with The Conservation Funds Conservation Leadership Network. Space is limited to the first 175 people, sign up at: huronpines.org/projectinfo.asp?pjt=ev&eid=113&gid=1
