One of our sophomores, Florence Yuan Feng, decided to travel - TopicsExpress

One of our sophomores, Florence Yuan Feng, decided to travel across Southeast Asia during this break, taking different modes of traveling including trains, buses and flights. When asked about her highlights, she says : The journey lasted for 10 days. I started from Singapore, passed through KL, Bangkok, Vientiane, Luang Prabang, Hanoi finally reached my hometown Beijing. I visited schools in all the cities I passed by. Schools showcase a lot about the countrys education system as well as the sort of political environment that students are exposed to. My most unexpected experience was watching a play called MUD in KL in which my friends and I were the only audience members. The cast even invited us on stage to perform with them! The play showcases the history of KL and how it thrives on the diversity of its citizens. It was a remarkable theatre experience seeing the passions of the actors and being able to interact with them in such a spontaneous way. And finally, my most absurd experience was taking a 25-hour bus ride from Luang Prabung to Hanoi by myself. As one of the only four non-local passengers, I had a bit of communication problems with the driver. There was one time where I was trying to purchase a local SIM card during a lunch break in the middle of a village in Vietnam, the bus took off before I managed to get on! Fortunately, a kind local villager agreed to take me on his motorbike, so we caught on with the bus quite soon.
