One of the biggest micro-problems we face as a society is a lack - TopicsExpress

One of the biggest micro-problems we face as a society is a lack of authentic human connection. Most of us go about our days socialising in cliques: keeping to those who are like us. These might be people who are from the same background, social class or who partake in the same privilege/struggles. Beginning to break these social barriers is a long process. But it usually begins with a conversation - and perhaps breaking bread together. This picnic is not going to revolutionise the structures that create inequality and perpetuate the separation between us - but it will give you a perspective on what could potentially be. Well be inviting strangers from all walks of life to sit with us in the sun, share food, stories and perspectives. Well have some sponsored food, and many others will be bringing their own gifts (music, games, goodies etc) along to collectively share. However, please note that this is NOT a charity event. Its not about giving back to those less fortunate than us and feeling good about yourself for it: its about creating a space of solidarity for our mutual benefit. This is a nuanced but important distinction to make. The picnic will take place this Saturday in company gardens on the lawns in front of the Planetarium. Youll be able to recognise it by the large congregation of people on blankets. Well be meeting at 10am to go around the area inviting strangers to the picnic and also performing random acts of kindness. The picnic itself will begin at 11:30 for 12pm. Not coming at 10am does not mean you cant attend the picnic :) See you this weekend and if it is within your means, please bring along a gift: even if its just your story.
