One of the bonuses of todays trip to Baton Rouge to protest - TopicsExpress

One of the bonuses of todays trip to Baton Rouge to protest Jindals hatred rally was meeting several wonderful LSU professors who were courageous enough to join the protest. One, Kevin Cope - President of the Faculty Senate, gave a stirring speech. As we hiked back across campus to our car, we serendipitously met up with another professor carrying a sign with a quote about refusing to be silent. She told us that it was a quote attributed to Sophie Scholl. We asked about her and were given a quick history lesson on this brave young woman who was murdered by the Nazis during WWII. Sophies legacy has significance for many, both as a demonstration of exemplary spiritual courage, and as a well-documented case of social dissent in a time of violent repression, censorship, and conformist pressure. (A quote about her from Wiki - below another quote from Sophie. Thank you unknown Professor for awakening me to a beautiful mind.) Just because so many things are in conflict does not mean that we ourselves should be divided. Yet time and time again one hears it said that since we have been put into a conflicting world, we have to adapt to it. Oddly, this completely unchristian idea is most often espoused by so-called Christians, of all people. How can we expect a righteousness to prevail when there is hardly anyone who will give himself up undividedly to a righteous cause?
