One of the clear lessons of the financial crisis of 2007-2008 is that financial institutions should not be free to profiteer at the expense of the poor and other financial non-sophisticates with nefarious products. The big bank lobbyists may have prevented Elizabeth Warren from heading the institution she created, but they should not be allowed to prevent the Consumer Protection Bureau from operating at full strength for its intended purpose.
