One of the dearest friends of my life, Billie Letts, Oklahoma author of several best-selling novels, including “Where the Heart Is” (a successful Hollywood movie), died yesterday morning at age 76 in her native Tulsa. Mother of Tracy Letts, the Pulitzer Prize winning playwright and actor (“August: Osage County”), she and her late husband Dennis were probably the best friends of my life. They fed me, laughed with me, cried with me, and embraced my very soul throughout undergraduate and graduate school – and for many, many year since. Both will be missed more than I can find words to express.
