One of the landmark movies of Indian cinema Guide directed by Vijay Anand in 1965 featuring the legends Dev Anand and Waheeda Rehman was first made in English in collaboration with an American director and an American writer but the film failed to do well. The film was then remade in Hindi and went on to become a cult classic. Dev Anand played a tourist guide in the movie who eventually turns into a sadhu or a sage as the movie progresses. He mentioned in one of his interviews with NDTV that when they were shooting the movie in a drought hit village in Rajasthan, thousands will gather to get a glimpse of him and touch his feet thinking that he is a real sadhu.
