One of the last (public on Dokkum town hall) rehearsals before the Kaunas concert. Here Auke de Boer is playing one of my (Joseph J. Visser) pieces: Tre Conziones for Bells - after the procession with the figures of The Cid in Burgos - see: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gigantes_y_cabezudos - I was so lucky to encounter this great cultural event when travelling with Ludi Visser-Haantjes through France, Northern-Spain and Northern-Putugal some years ago. El Cid is one of my favourite figures in European history; he was well and truly (and for long successfully) working on relations between the best of European culture and the best of the North-African culture; as such one of those remarkable points in history where the best of cultures came together. (To be honest, this was the trip where Ludi and I had to find out we were deeply of the more Northern type of people: needing a bit of cold rather than the heat we had to fight in that bit of South --beautiful as it may be.)
