One of the many Three Stooges shorts had them as Union spies during the Civil War. In once scene, they are eating a cake baked by a Southern belle. Unbeknownst to all, a feather-filled pot holder had been baked along with the cake and they were having quit a tough time biting into it. Well, to make a long story short....I know, too late for that....the fish sticks I just nuked for supper are kind of like that particular cake.
