One of the many things my father taught me was how to use a multitester (Small electric meter that allows a person to check voltage. amperage, resistance, continuity , etc) I use it to check circuits and batteries mostly. It allows me to determine if a circuit or device is still working and determine if a remote is going south or the batteries are just weak. This week, my A/C compressor stopped working at my store. All the other 120 volt systems still worked. I called my A/C repair guy and he was tied up. Bummer. So I went home and brought my multitester to the shop. Found out one of three leads from the 240 volt service from the utility company transformer was not working properly. (Its three phase, meaning three hot wires coming into the building rather than only two as most houses and small commercial buildings have.) Two lines showed 123 V each but the third one, which is supposed to have 240 volts only carried 13 V. (I checked my 3 phase 240 Volt mill and it wouldnt run either.) One call to the TXU Electric company connected me to the power provider (Oncor) They had two guys show up with trucks within a hour and a half and they replaced two transformers out on the street in front of the building. A/C now works great as does the mill. Thanks, Pop for all you taught me years ago. Youve been gone for 28 years this month, but are still in my heart and mind!
