One of the many wonderful things about having Russian friends stay with us is learning about the similarities and differences that exist between Russian and American culture. (Those of you who know me well will know that I *really* geek out about stuff like this.) One of the strangest differences, oddly enough, is mayonnaise. Russians put it on/in everything. Im not just talking about on french fries, like many Europeans do, Im talking EVERYTHING -- pea soup, beef soup, pizza, toast, potatoes... they use it the way Americans use ketchup. Ive never seen so many uses for mayo in my life! The best part? Our Russian friends tell us that Russian mayo is even heavier than the mayo sold here in the States... and theyre STILL skinnier than we are! Go figure.
