One of the more common complaints these days is regarding poor customer service. I have a story that is the opposite of that. It begins at the car wash across the street from The Golden Ox. I went through the automatic car wash and things were proceeding as they usually do. The machine rinsed my car, then soaped it up, then stalled. I waited awhile. Sometimes these mechanisms delay a bit. This delay seemed particularly long but eventually it restarted by acting like it was rinsing the soap from my car, however no water was coming out of the hoses. Then it sprayed wax on top of the soap. At that point, it stalled for good. I sat there for about 3 minutes in complete denial that I was stuck in this car wash, with my vehicle covered in soap and wax! Then the sign started flashing for me to back up. Luckily the machine bars werent blocking me because, believe me, getting trapped in a car wash is something that has crossed my mind every time Ive entered one! So I backed up and pulled forward again, hoping to retrigger the mechanism enough to maybe rinse my car. It didnt work. I wasnt sure what to do. The soap and wax was coating my windshield in such a way that it made driving difficult, with a smeared film across the glass. I couldnt just buzz over to the stall next door and rinse it myself because, as fate would have it, I emptied my purse of all coins in order to make it lighter, and I didnt have any dollars left. Such is life, eh? So I backed up again, in one last desperate attempt to trigger the machine to work. Just then, a work truck pulled up and two men jumped out -- an older gentleman and a younger gentleman. I dont know if they were owners or managers. Both men must have received a call about the malfunction because they immediately knew something was amiss and told me to wait while they solved the problem. With their guidance, we tried a couple of things but none of them worked. Meanwhile, my car was still covered in a soapy, waxy film. I resigned myself to driving home slowly, using back roads. However, they asked me to make a U-turn into the stall next door, and well take care of you. And thats what happened. The older gentleman got to work on repairing the automatic car wash while the younger gentleman got to work on my car. He stood out there in the frigid morning air, getting sprayed with cold water, washing my car by hand. Then he even dried it. He didnt have to do that. I wouldve dried it myself at home -- I wouldnt have minded. I just needed to have the soapy film rinsed off, you know? But he gave my car the full treatment, and insisted on drying it for me, to complete the process. He even smiled during the whole ordeal. I thanked him and apologized that I didnt have any money for a tip. He said that he appreciates my business, and he hopes that Ill come back again after all this. I reassured him that I love this car wash, Ive come here many times, and I will definitely continue coming here. So I say, give them your business, if you can. These guys deserve it. Both men couldnt be nicer, couldnt be more helpful and apologetic. This is a business that cares about customers. I find that refreshing. I also find it a great tone to start the new year!
