One of the more serious problems with the enclosed model is that it cant be made to adjust to the future climate extremes and the break-down of rural ecosystems brought on by industrialization in the first place, regardless of its design efforts to deal with inequity and infrastructure inefficiency. This fact, now becoming evident even to the most central theory advocates has caused some to question the hierarchical economic foundation at the source of urbanism as no longer being functional. From my own ecological vantage point, I believe cities will need to decrease density rather than increase it to further capitalize on resources (actually trying to get more from less and further weaken bio-reserves). Alternatively, I see biodiversity as the key to survival in a closing climate; and that means decentralizing to improve resiliency and maximize survival opportunity. Better collaboration and distribution are the keys to both physical security and social equity -- it is the natural way to employ modern science for the common good. The UN-Habitat Model in Paper City is out of date and it does nothing to question the gross capitalistic system that brought on all the trouble in the first place.
