One of the most fascinating figures in the western spiritual - TopicsExpress

One of the most fascinating figures in the western spiritual tradition is the 14th century mystic, teacher and preacher, Meister Eckhart. Even D. T. Suzuki, who is credited with bringing Zen Buddhism to the west, was so fascinated with Meister Eckhart that he wrote a book comparing Eckhart and Zen called "Mysticism: Christian and Buddhist". Eckhart can best be compared to his teacher and fellow Dominican, Thomas Aquinas. Aquinas had an experience of the unknowable, unfathomable mystery of God and, as a result, took a vow of silence, for he felt such a profound awe that it rendered him speechless. Eckhart, on the other hand, had a similar experience of the One behind the many, and babbled away, preaching and teaching through the use of paradox and profound metaphor. Join us as we explore his paradoxical notions and flights of metaphor that move our minds beyond logic into a deeper spiritual intuition.
