One of the most important things we must do as a Muslim society, especially in the West, is to learn, implement, and teach the Knowledge of the Religion. This is the path to success for this life and the Hereafter. If someone does not learn the Knowledge of the Religion properly, how would he know if his prayers are valid? how would he know if his fasting is valid? how would he know what the sins are in order to avoid them? how would he become pious? and how would he set an example to other Muslims and non-Muslims? There is no way except by learning the Knowledge of the Religion from a trustworthy teacher who has a chain of knowledge through trustworthy teachers, that leads all the way to the Messenger of Allâh, peace be upon him. The Messenger of Allâh, peace be upon him, said what means: Seeking the Obligatory Knowledge of the Religion is an obligation upon every accountable Muslim (whether male or female) (Narrated by al-Bayhaqiyy). In another hadith, the Messenger of Allâh, peace be upon him, advised his companion, telling him what means: O Abu Dharr, if you go and learn one verse of the Quran it is more rewardable than praying 100 (optional) rak^ahs, and if you go and learn a chapter of Knowledge (of the Religion) it is more rewardable than praying 1000 (optional) rak^ahs. This is a clear proof that seeking the Knowledge of the Religion is among the most important matters, and is something that entails great reward. Thus when you hear about a circle of Knowledge being held, rush to join, for there are secrets and blessings in these circles of Knowledge.
