One of the problems with politics is so many words and phrases people dont really understand. For instance being for a balanced budget sounds cool, but who really knows what it means. And claiming a policy will lower the debt sounds cool, but it cant be done without first having a balanced budget. With a balanced budget it would then require government cuts to create a surplus that could be used to pay down the debt. The critical issue in all of it is what really does a balanced budget mean. It means a zero deficit. So next time a politician says they are for a balanced budget, ask them if what they really mean is that they are for a zero deficit, and with no tax increases.
