One of the qualities you must cultivate is TEACHABILITY. It will expand your talents and graces. Teachability is not about competence or mental capacity, its about attitude! It is the desire to listen, learn and apply. It is the hunger to discover and grow. It is the willingness to learn, unlearn and relearn. You will discover that a number of talented folks have a tough time with teachability; these can be found everywhere- in entertainment, in academics, in sports, in community service and also in church! These folks always seem to think they know it all so they do not expand their talent. Teachability is soaking it all like a sponge because when you stop learning, you stop growing! Lets consider the following pointers regarding teachability: 1. Nothing is interesting if you are not interested. When you are not teachable, you miss the best of what life has to offer and you settle for less than you can become. When you are teachable, you are interested in discovery, discussion, application and growth. There is a compelling relationship between your passion and your potential. 2. The viewpoint you have on learning is very critical. Successful people view learning differently from those who are not successful. Be open to learn everyday! A winner knows how much he still has to learn even when he is considered an expert by others. A loser wants to be considered an expert by others, before he has learnt enough to know how little he knows. 3. Growing and learning is a life-long pursuit and it is a process. A certain man started learning to speak the Greek language at age 80. When he was asked why he was making the effort at such an old age, he responded, this is the youngest age I have left! This is a learning attitude! Too many grow old before their time because they have shutdown their learning faculties. It was said that you cannot teach an old dog new tricks, but this is a fallacy. As you study the Word of God, you find examples of those who learnt new tricks. As you study history, you discover some others. 4. Have you noticed that Some talented people are some of the toughest to teach? Because of their talent, they do not exhibit the patience or perseverance to learn. This is quite sad as being teachable will enable them expand their talents and increase their graces. Most talented folks who reject learning or who are not teachable do not fulfil the extent of their potential and end up with relatively mediocre results despite the applaud they may receive. For example, why should a fast runner only be the fastest runner in the neighborhood, when he can hold the national record, break the world record or the Olympic record. 5. Pride is a key hindrance to teachability. I once recall that our man of God, Pastor Chris, said to us that we must fight to be humble. Pride closes the mind to new ideas. I am yet to meet a conceited, arrogant and prideful person who possesses a teachable spirit. Pride closes the mind to constructive feedback- It takes wisdom to receive it, understand it, analyze it and act on it. Pride prevents us from admitting our errors and causes us to continue in them. Pride keeps us from making the needed changes. Even if you do good work, always seek progress and not the status quo. In conclusion, become interested in learning and growth! We are blessed to live in a time where more information is generated every hour than available decades many years ago. Teachability enables you to sift through loads of data and convert these to information and to analyze this information and convert them into life changing insights that can drive anointed decision making and winning action! make your comments @ yookos/community/celagoszone1/blog/2014/03/26/auxano-lounge-remain-teachable Yookos is a social networking site that allows users to meet friends online, play online games and keep up to date with the latest news from around the globe.
