One of the reasons I love city living (as I was just speaking about this afternoon with Karen Brooks et al.): random interactions, almost intimacies with strangers that urban density occasions make my life richer and nicer. (Go see the movie The Lunch Box for an extreme example). These passing interactions dont provide the support one can count on from ones loved ones, but daily they might actually be more of a pick me up... At least I like the folks I encounter either only once in passing (fellow public transit riders) or for a distinct spell (the UPS man for the neighborhood at work).
