One of the reasons The Taxpayers Union says The Civilian Party - TopicsExpress

One of the reasons The Taxpayers Union says The Civilian Party shouldnt have got $33,000 of broadcast funding is because they say it is just Ben Uffindells hobby. Twenty-one years ago the McGillicuddy Serious Party got more than twice that amount, $76,000, and copped similar criticism to that he is receiving now (in fact abuse, e.g. me and Russell G Shaw were nastily thrown out of a country pub). While there are similarities between the two (as both parties practice political satire and not merely juvenile humour like The Bill and Ben Party) on this count they may have a point, as The Civilian does appear to be a one-man band. Whereas the Clan McGillicuddy is a collective psychological and artistic orientation and lifestyle, and in 1993 the McGSP had been going for a decade already and was running 60 candidates for the second election in a row - we WERE and ARE serious. The ultimate test of intent will be how Uffindell uses the money - we hired Lisa Reihana to produce our election ad, which has been regularly included ever since in Film Archive exhibitions as a classic of NZ animation and short film - check out a slightly fuzzy version here - https://youtube/watch?v=Oxy1UJtlwaA
