One of the suggested prayers to pray over the IDF soldiers in the Gaza conflict is Psalm 20. In an old text called Nagid uMitzvah from the middle ages, there is an interesting vocalization of the text- especially the Holy Name- pointed 5 different ways each time the Name appears in the text. Each time the Name appears it is vocalized (indicating intention, not pronunciation) with the first vowel of each word in a phrase found in the Torah. THe first three are connected to Genesis 32:12, as Yaakov was anticipating meeting up with Esav. THe 4th and 5th time the name appears in this Psalm, it is vocalized with the foirst vowel of each word in a phrase in Exodus 15:16- the Song at the Sea, as Israel had crossed the sea of Reeds and were delivered from the Egyptians. I list the occurrences of the Name and the related phrase in English: 1) Deliver me from the hand of my brother 2) From the hand of Esav because afraid 3) I am of him lest he comes 4)Fell on them fear and terror 5) By the greatness of your arm, they resemble a stone (sinking in water) Very appropriate for this time!!!
