One of the things I enjoy most about being a dog - TopicsExpress

One of the things I enjoy most about being a dog trainer... When I go to someones house for the very first time to work with their dog... I usually dont know these people at all and I dont know the issues going on with the dog behind their walls. The issues is typically not a dog problem, but a human one. So Im going into a totally unknown scenario and thats part of my challenge. But I am always going in feeling CONFIDENT. I know that I can provide good information and that I can get a response from the dog, given the time and tools, this dog will learn to accept me and respond to me. I may make a mistake at times, but even Cesar Millan has been bitten hundreds of times over the years! Ive seen Cesar really blow it sometimes. And I always tell the owners, its up to YOU whether this dog succeeds or not. I only see her once a week. You must do the homework and work with her daily. And when I return for the next lesson, the dog will tell me if the owner did the homework. When I do my six week training course, I learned from ABC to have the owners sign a form which states that THEY are responsible for the dogs success. It has to be this way. Owners have to learn to step up and be leaders and trainers in the home. I love working with the larger dogs. My least favorite group of dogs to work with would probably be the TOY group. They are just so darn little! And they are usually spoiled so bad because their human owners think of them as fur-babies or little kids. As a result, these little guys are so often, so screwed up, and they are so out of hand, yapping, biting, pissing and shaking all the time. This is what a lack of Pack Leadership will do for the dog in such a home. Oh, little Bubba just loves me, and protects me and wont even let my husband sit by me without growling and fussing and even nipping. And they think its cute. As Cesar would say, They are not babies or kids. They are dogs and they WANT to be treated like dogs. And if you dont take on a leadership role, the dog will assume it because it is his nature to be a pack animal and pack animals have to have a pack leader. This is such a common problem in America with owners and their dogs. I enjoy the sporting, working and herding groups in particular. And hey, I even enjoy the Terrier group too, after all, I have five miniature schnauzers.
