One of the things I love about being involved with Wild Eye is that its about so much more than photography and travel with them - theres a strong conservation focus. Every year, there are a number of Madikwe Conservation Safaris hosted, where the participants get involved with hands-on conservation initiatives (prioritised and organised by the park ecologist). The money paid by guests to go on these safaris is also used to fund the purchase of equipment like radio collars and to fund various of the activities/services needed to notch rhino, dart animals and perform veterinarian and research analysis on them. Feedback from a recent conservation safari: The focus was on supporting Madikwe’s Counter Poaching Units who have an extremely proud record of only having lost one rhino in the last 12 months and also worked on a rhino and fitted a satellite collar to a female buffalo. They managed to raise R 130,000 that will go towards the vet and helicopter costs, and at least R 100,000 of this will go towards the Anti Poaching guys that work tirelessly in ensuring that the rhino in the reserve are protected. Jono says: “This is the 8th consecutive year that we have been contributing to the conservation efforts in the park and, with the kind contribution of friends, we have raised in excess of R 750,000 for conservation in Madikwe during this period. We need to change the way people see the world! For more info, and to get involved with this initiative: bit.ly/conservemadikwe #conservation #Madikwe #SouthAfrica #WildEyeSA
