One of the weird side-effects of white supremacy is that in the process of making all light-skinned people white, we erase the ethnic differences between various light-skinned ethnic groups. When youre steeped in this crap for long enough and every light-skinned group (or nearly all) around you has been deemed Proper White, you forget or never learn how to tell the differences, even if you want to just for the fun of it. In that vein, one of the interesting little things about watching Supernatural that has nothing to do with the show is noticing just how much Jared Padalecki has in common lookswise with a Polish-American woman I used to know in Indiana. They could almost be cousins. I had sort of gotten to the point that sometimes I could tell someone wasnt American just by the set of their mouth, but I still have a long way to go, and thats more language differences than ethnic differences--when your accent and pronunciations are completely different, you work different muscles in your face and it affects how you look. I dont have it down to a science or anything, its just something Ive noticed.
