One of the wisest things my best friend Jeff has ever said was this: No one should ever aspire to be their parents. People should want to progress beyond their parents to be a better person than their parents are. I thought about this after a conversation with my mother. Although I respect my mother and people in her generation I realized that her generation has developed a mind set where the world around them must change to fit them. We can see this in politics and how some individuals their age tend to have strong unchanging views but we as the next generation should aspire beyond that. We should be open to different people and different ideas. We should be willing to analyze our own behavior before forcing others to abide by what we personally think or believe.
