One of the worst aspects of modern newspaper journalism is the tendency of writers — it’s hard to call them reporters anymore — to simply rewrite press releases rather than asking the obvious questions that need to be asked about news events. The industry is falling apart as the business model of newspapers collapses. I blame bad writers and bad editors, but I mostly blame it on timid and bean-counting newspaper owners who don’t understand the business they’re supposed to be in.
