One of three men who allegedly held four workers hostage during a five-hour siege at a western Sydney brothel has made a brief court appearance. Wasim Asaad, 36, faced Liverpool Local Court on Friday morning after spending the night in custody. He didnt apply for bail, which was formally refused. He will remain locked up until November 26, when its expected he will apply for bail at Campbelltown Local Court. Outside the court, Asaads lawyer described Thursdays police operation as overkill. Asaads co-accused, Kanj Nayef Kanj, 40, and Mohammad Issa, 45, are listed to appear at Liverpool Local Court later on Friday. Asaads lawyer told the court he was a little bit concerned about the mental state of his client and asked that he undergo mental health assessment before their next court date. All three men are facing charges of aggravated take person with intent to commit serious indictable offence. Its alleged they stormed a Liverpool brothel Thursday morning, possibly armed, taking two men and two female workers hostage. No one was hurt during the operation. People in nearby businesses were told to stay inside while tactical police and negotiators went to deal with the men.
