One overlooked aspect of the the life, death, and resurrection of Jesus Christ the Son of God is this; He tore down the building, toppled the priest/people distinction, and satisfied the necessity for religious sacrifice and ceremony. After he returned from the grave He built a new temple made up of a people He purchased with His blood. No longer was there a temple or house of God officiated by priests and levites who managed the relationship between God and man, but a Body made up of priests erected in its place. Jesus was at war with the elders, priests, and religious power-trippers of His day. He toppled their institutions and laid low the places of power which self-righteous men adopted in order to cover other men whom they kept less righteous and subservient to their order. The return of Christ signaled the redemption of man from the dominion of sin, death, and eternal separation from God the Father, but it also enable the redemption of man from the dominion of man. Christ came back from death to establish a Church (ecclesia: assembly of believers, not an organization) on earth in the place of the prior religious order wherein men made buildings unto themselves and responsibilities that gave them power to officiate ceremonies, activities, and ministries before the eyes of other men whom they reconciled to God through various rules and regulations they created or adopted to gather up their own earthly rewards. For those who have been redeemed from the bondage to sin, death, and the religious slavery of domineering men, remember what Christ said in Matthew 10: “Behold, I am sending you out as sheep in the midst of wolves, so be wise as serpents and innocent as doves. Beware of men, for they will deliver you over to courts and flog you in their synagogues, and you will be dragged before governors and kings for my sake, to bear witness before them and the Gentiles. When they deliver you over, do not be anxious how you are to speak or what you are to say, for what you are to say will be given to you in that hour. For it is not you who speak, but the Spirit of your Father speaking through you. Brother will deliver brother over to death, and the father his child, and children will rise against parents and have them put to death, and you will be hated by all for my names sake. But the one who endures to the end will be saved. As you dwell on the resurrection of Christ this weekend, please keep His teachings in mind and be who you were purchased to be.
