One person died Friday night as the result of a shooting incident in the city. According to the Martinsburg Police Department, at approximately 11:25 p.m. Friday, officers from the Martinsburg Police Department were dispatched to a residence on Winchester Avenue for a report of a break-in involving a shooting. Upon arrival at the scene, police said, it was discovered that an elderly handicapped man had been home when two males kicked in his door and allegedly attempted to rob him. The man grabbed a firearm, according to police, in an attempt to scare off the intruders. According to the man, one of the intruders grabbed his firearm and it went off, shooting one of the intruders in the chest. The male who was shot was later identified as Ronald Stotler, who was transferred to Berkeley Medical Center and was later pronounced dead. The second intruder, described as a black male whom the victim did not know, allegedly fled the scene. The case remains under investigation.
