One thing I love about the web is how you can simply be only one click away from a group that you havent engaged with before and this was the case for me last night. Following a link on the Community Gardens network I found Future Feeders and then followed on through to Food Alliance. The Food Alliance is a not-for-profit group that brings people and organisations together to tackle the big issues in our food system from paddock to plate. Talk about on the pulse, on my pulse, on the artery of a healthy future. The vision and mission of Food Alliance Mission To make our food system better – better for our health, better for the planet and fairer for farmers. Vision Our vision is a world where - (1) healthy, sustainable food is the easy choice. (2) soil, plants and rivers are protected for our children. (3) farmers, workers, citizens and animals are treated fairly. Goals Based on our assessment of the challenges facing Australia’s food system, and having regard to initiatives already underway in different parts of the country, we believe that we will optimise our effectiveness by amplifying existing momentum and carrying out focused strategic actions to address key gaps. So our plan to achieve our mission is based around four key goals, i.e. to: (1) Increase levels of food literacy. (2) To support the emergence of a connected food system. (3) Protect prime farmland. (4) Grow regional food economies.
