One thing Ive learned in doing what I do, and something I really want to pursue more wholeheartedly in 2015, is that bringing healing to the wounded is much more fruitful than trying to open the minds and hearts of those doing the wounding. Those who inflict heart wounds through their words and misrepresentations of God, in many cases, truly believe themselves to be doing right, and that sense of moral superiority, combined with the fear of losing their position, often results in ugly behavior when theyre challenged. The wounded, however, are bleeding out onto the ground, just hoping that someone will take the time to notice and help them up. Bad theology has done quite a number on our society, and those hurt by it are sometimes in more imminent danger than the ones who hurt them. On the flip side, we must also remember that wounders are themselves wounded, and need to be seen as damaged and hurt people in need of rescue. However, the damage done to them is a bit more severe, and trying to just run up to them and save them, might result in them gouging out your eye or at least taking a swipe at you. For that reason I say go first for the wounded, and eventually the wounders. We could save ourselves a lot of pain and unnecessary controversy if wed simply go first to where were needed most. So thats one of my main goals for 2015: the heal the wounded instead of trying to take on and enlighten those doing the wounding.
