One thing Ive learnt from being a mother of ADHD children is that your confidence takes a huge beating over the years & you are tested in every way. But one thing it teaches you is that theres a story behind every behaviour, and theres some amazing qualities in these kids that go unrecognised or clouded out by people who are quick to judge & write them off as badly behaved kids. Its taught me to look deeper & look for the good qualities in all children/teens. If you spend the time & give someone a chance, you will see they are fighting their own battle & a seemly small & insignificant gesture, smile kind word or act can have a lasting effect. Just as powerful as a frown, a negative comment & general disapproval all reinforces a childs already low self worth & confidence. Behavior is a story that cant be spoken. Words trapped inside a body that doesnt know how speak them. Some days ive felt like im going t lose the plot, then my near 15 yr old boy comes & gives me a hug & i think i must of got something right along this crazy road Ive travelled.
