One thing i have encountered lately is people asking why do you kill coyote, fox etc...is it an ego thing? Let me relay an experience today. Dropped my card off at a local feed mill and one of the employees immediately wanted to talk to me. Seems they have a farm with a lot of small/medium livestock with guard dogs, great Pyrenees etc. recently they came home and found one of the animals all wrapped in the fence wire, and the dogs had the rest of the animals herded up, they freed the animal and went inside, pretty soon the dogs started barking and they heard the coyotes, then it got quiet, which is odd, so they went out and found that the dogs had the animals herded up inside the lean tos and building, again..odd she said they do that if they feel outnumbered. When you have three large breed dogs protecting your animals that feel outnumbered and threatened, that is a sign you have a coyote problem, and they were more than interested in having me help out. It has nothing to do with ego, do i enjoy the thrill of the hunt? absolutely, do i use the animals I harvest? yes, I save fur, skulls, claws etc. Us predator hunters help maintain the predator/prey balance in an area when we can. This actually helps the health of both species. Do I want to see all coyotes killed..NO. managed yes. Has nothing to do with ego or feeling like a big tough guy. there is the feeling of knowing you can outsmart one of the top dogs of the food chain on his turf, that is an accomplishment. and it has more benefits to animals than most realize. and I will NEVER apologize for being a predator hunter.-kr
