One thing we learned about the Hadzabe - when they go hunting for - TopicsExpress

One thing we learned about the Hadzabe - when they go hunting for their wild game - they have to use special arrows with poison. The poison for their arrows is a great distance from their camp. Without this poison they cant hunt. On our last trip we told them we would take them to get poison. They were so grateful because it is heavy to carry back to the camp. They have to produce their own poison which comes from a certain tree. We walked with them to cut down this tree and almost every part of the tree was brought back in our vehicle. On the drive back we stopped at a local market to purchase some arrows for them to hunt. They said they were without arrows for a long time. The cost was about $7.00 for 15 arrows. The video below shows some of the process of making the poison. They cut parts of the tree and add water then boil for a long time. It gets thick and when thickened they add wild grasses and sticks to it. It goes on the arrow and away they go to hunt.
