One time we played a show at a log cabin in Benton, Illinois. I remember as we played Vacation a group of kids shouted the lets let it wash us away line back at us, and I remember thinking that was awesome, because people rarely shouted our songs back at us, in fact it had never happened up until that point. Naturally, this group of kids had impeccable musical taste so I took it upon myself to talk to them at the show. One of these kids pointed out the Kurt Vonnegut references in some of the alliswell lyrics, which was the first time anyone ever noticed that. This kid was George Workman. Over the course of the next seven years, I ran into George at shows all the time and he was always so nice and genuine. We would talk briefly about music or books and then each go our own way. He always encouraged alliswell and me to make music. A couple of months ago, alliswell played a show at CKs and George was there again with his same group of friends from the log cabin shouting some of our lyrics back at us. I was so thankful for that. Of course with any loss, theres a sting of guilt, I wish I wouldve told George how much I appreciated him doing that. As a 31 year old small time local musician, the support of just a few people is enough sometimes to make you feel like what youve made actually means something to someone else. George gave us that. I am not going to pretend that I knew George better than I did, or that I can even feel a fraction of the loss that his friends and family must feel. I feel his loss in our shrinking music community and I feel his loss as losing another kick ass human being in this world. My thoughts and prayers are with Bryan, Dalton, Brent, Wes Romack, and all of Georges friends and family. Im so sorry for your loss, he is a good man and Im thankful for the encouragement he always gave me. Thanks George. -Dane
