One truth about brain cells....they dont regenerate. Once they are gone, they are gone. Choosing to work with a population of people with dementia means understanding this point, and that they are literally doing the best they can. But we can help fill their days with moments of joy, and for me this is one of lifes greatest treasures. Patience is key in this work, as is the desire to treat each person with respect and dignity, just as I would want my mom or dad to be treated.
