One week ago today a whole bunch of really good people lost their jobs. The company Ive basically dedicated my working life to for 15 years decided to outsource all our data entry and data processing duties. I know its a hard, cold reality of our broken economic system that this kind of nonsense happens all the time, but when it happens to people youve been working beside for many years it really hits home. These are dedicated, hard working people who have given the company their best efforts for years despite low pay, high stress and confusing leadership. What they got in return was the chance to train the people who will be replacing them. Nice. Id like nothing better than to leave with them, but I love writing about music and cant see myself making a living at it anywhere else. I also believe in the data and content we provide and dont want to see this amazing database weve built get trashed in the name of saving the cost of paying people a living wage and health care. So Ill stick around cuz I dont wanna make tea at the BBC. Can you tell Im still pretty mad about this? I think Ill always be mad about it. I know a lot of the people who were cruelly tossed out on their ear are on FB - stay strong and know people are looking out for you as best as they can! To that end if anyone hears about good job openings in the A2/Ypsi/Detroit area where someone with a killer work ethic and mad computer skills is needed, please let me know!
