One year ago today Gibraltar went to the polls. Exactly one year ago today Gibraltar went to the polls in a by-election and I stood as an independent candidate, primarily on the issue of eliminating party politics from Gibraltar. I knew when I saw all three parties stand a candidate that it was an absolutely impossible task, but because I believe so strongly on the reason for standing, I decided to continue and at least obtain personal closure. I didnt obtain the number of votes I would have wished for, however I have to say the experience was well worth it and a real eye opener to local politics from a candidates perspective. On saying all this, I believe even more than ever, the way politics is on the continued increase of seeing it totally personalised by politicians and their activists in Gibraltar, where scoring testosterone points via personal insults thrown from both sides, rather than scoring points on debating the real issues of concern, and seeing first hand on a daily basis primarily in social media, the massive division we have of our people due to party politics, I truly hope one day to see Gibraltar rid of the system in place once and for all. Gibraltar is too small to be divided. For those who did vote for me, supported me and think as I do, thanks a million, and heres hoping to seeing someone in the future with a lot more time to dedicate to front line politics than I have, to take the baton and run with it all the way. https://youtube/watch?v=yT_kl9nzAN0
