One year ago today I arrived in Bucharest, Romania, after an overnight train ride in a sleeping bunk with four big-breasted French women and a German woman named Prisca, who spent that first day in Romania with me and stayed in my hostel room. Here is part of what I wrote: First we went to Parliament and we were in the last group at 16:00 to take the tour. It is the second largest administrative building in the world, behind the Pentagon. Nice rooms, but the tour guide was unenthused and most rooms were just big, empty, beautiful rooms. Also, some of our other tour participants were jackasses. There was, however, a cute young couple—he had cochlear implants and she was showing him info on her phone during the tour. On the balcony, I took their photo and they took our photo. I knew I’d like them. And there were five or six hot guys who I think were Dutch. I’m not sure if they were gay, but they were stylish and very comfortable together. In Europe that doesn’t mean anything. From there we headed to Old Town and saw some interesting sights and ate Greek food. Then we headed on the subway to the Arch de Triomphe. From there we cut through the park to see the lake and got stuck in the rain. There was a cutie on a bicycle who passed us a couple times and then waited under a tree with us. I think he was flirting, and he was definitely adorable. Once we saw the lake we crossed onto an island and then had ice cream and returned via Metro. It’s much harder in the dark to navigate so luckily Prisca was on top of things. It was proof that two heads are better than one at this traveling thing.
