One year ago today I lost someone who I was not only lucky enough to call friend, but honored and privileged to call family. I did not get as many years with Steve Poynor as some, but what he did share with me and teach me will last my life and beyond as I teach those things to my own kids. He was very proud of my career as a firefighter in Cherry Valley where it all began for me and for him years before as well. I will see his name on the memorial rock outside the firehouse every shift now and always remember what he meant to so many who do this job. I wish every day that he could come back to us and he could see all of his grandkids grow up. I know that little Maddix would take over the task of making him laugh and shake his head like I loved to do so much. I promised Steve that I would take care or Laurie and never let anything happen to his yard. I gotta say, shes a pretty decent lawn girl. Steve would be proud. It amazes me how strong mom has been after what the last year and a half have put her through. I know Steve is always there with her though. I love you papa and I miss you every day.
