One year ago today, William Cody Thompson, got called to make his last run. His train had been tied up in Hazard for five long years and he was anxious to be on his way home. When he got the 1:30 call he was ready to go. In all his years of service as an engineer he had never been late for work and this was to be no exception. He climbed the steps to enter the cab of the locomotive and for the last time he put his hand on the throttle and eased his train out of the Hazard yards. He had known for a long time that he would have to make this run without any crew but now that he was on his way, he knew that he could do it. He was so excited to finally be going home. He had a lot of people that he was anxious to see. He had high hopes that when he reached his destination he would be able to see and greet his family and fellow engineers who had made this run before him. I could not be there when he arrived but I am sure that he was greeted by those who he had wanted to see for so long...... Rest in Peace, Cody.
