Only a true individual can think about unity, because a true individual must take the leap from the state, religion, misconceptions which are at work within the mass, they work through upholding mutual hate in the name of greater unity, they say you belong to this society, this country, this religion, this culture, this class and so you must stick to these people, these ideals. Anyone following these ideals will find them self contradictory to the national, social, religious, cultural values and discover that unless he forces an understanding as the mass have done so through blind faith, he will have to think and fend for himself. Some take the blindfold and some want to see for themselves what is the reason behind all these self contradictions. That is how an individual is born. Only an individual who is not afraid to walk the path of solitude can practise these ideals and reflect honestly enough to understand that these ideals are hateful and irrational, thought rational only because human reason is rarely used when a mass decision is made. Unity requires individuals to rise up in the society and have their own views, because they are already disillusioned, they are not driven by hate uncalled for.What remains without hatred ultimately unites. I remember something I read by T.S. Eliot, it meant something like this, tradition is the history of individuals, the history of traditional artists is the history of individuals...
