Ooh, this one ANGERS me. Theres evil, then theres punch a harmless, pregnant lady in the face evil. Active Self Protection exists to prevent these events, and to protect people from these incidents. This is horrible. Lessons: 1. This is a pure, unprovoked, sucker punch at its finest. (did you notice he is left handed?) You think these dont happen, but they do. He concealed his intentions until he struck and that is not uncommon. Plan your ASP accordingly. 2. This poor gals biggest problem is that she froze at the worst moment. That punch took a long time to come in, and she wasnt expecting it and had no frame of reference for it so she froze while it came right down the pipe at her and broke her face. The ONLY, and I mean only way to have any hope at all is to have enough mat time seeing a punch come your way that your ingrained instinct is to move, to block, to flinch, to do anything other than get your face caved in. This is reason enough to train. 3. He wouldnt have cared if she was 9 months pregnant. He was going to do what he was going to do regardless. So be ready to defend yourself! 4. After the attack, she did just what he expected and wilted. She was hurt and begging for mercy. Thankfully he wanted the money and wasnt a murderer. In that moment, though, she had plenty of opportunity as he was engaged to defend herself if she had her ASP covered. I am not saying she had to shoot him, but she would have been entirely justified. The point here is this: broken face or not, dont depend on the kindness and mercy of a violent felon. Fight! Learn to fight hurt, injured, bleeding, etc. Again, the way to learn this is through taking a bunch of beatings on the training mat and continuing to fight through them. 5. Apparently this guy was arrested and is facing a lot of jail time. Lovely. That doesnt take away the trauma this lady faces in life one iota. It doesnt reconstruct her face and doesnt remove the emotional violation she faced, either. Justice only happens in the moment, and only you can provide it. Attitude. Skills. Plan.
