OooooooooooWEeeeeeeeeee! Just another Im so Plaquemine story. Hats off to one MRS. GOLDIE TAYLOR TURNER who taught me how to write before I entered 3rd grade. Most of my Revilletown friends went to school in Mt. Zion B.C. which was school during the week and church on Sundays. Ms. Turner was the principal, teacher, cook and janitor. She was no joke. Everybody came out Mt. Zion with their spirits as well as their minds fed. We had so much respect for Ms. Turner, we didnt want her to know that we had been bad over the weekend because she had a razor strap nailed to a wooden handle that she loved to use.. Her favorite expression was. Up here! Up this way!We had to hold our hands out to get our licks, rub our hand on our clothes and get some more licks, Nobody laughed when you cried because they would get their chance to see what you were crying for. We had a potbelly stove heated by coal that the boys had to learn to make fire in to keep the building warm. Question: How could they make us go to school in our church? I wonder if the paid rent, or do they owe us for all those years they used that church as a public school? Im just wondering.............................
