Open letter to my son (Matsane Ayamaah Xuma) I hope you grow up soon so you will understand what I’m now trying to tell you, I was a child of circumstances unlike you who me and your mother planned and waited for your arrival, I want you to know that your arrival was well planned, you were no mistake to our lives, I bent my backwards trying to provide the basic needs in life for you and laying a foundation for your success All of my life I tried to be a good man, I want you to be a better man, I have tried to live according to some societal values and principles, I failed though, I have no one to blame but myself and the environment I lived under, my father your grandfather is a very quiet man, instead of yelling and stressing when I misbehaved, he just kept quiet and watched me threw my dreams and goals to the drain, I can’t do that, I swear, I will shout and yell at you If I experience any deviations in your life I am now a grown man, soon I will be no more and it would be tough for you as I won’t leave you with a status quo that other children’s get from their parents “my father was rich” but I will leave you with one which says “my father was successful”, I want you to maintain that quo, it runs in your blood, it’s my legacy to you and to my grandchildren I’m currently setting standards which I want you as my heir to meet in the future, I failed to meet my goals I set as a young boy, that wouldn’t be a problem to you since you’ll be having the right support systems and clear and concise resources in place. Our society is corrupt, tempting and requires a clear vision and strategically aligned goals and objectives, I’m now trying to write a book which will serve as a guiding principle to your success, I hope you won’t deviate, I will haunt you if that happens, my father gave me a name, I build on it, I want you to carry it to your child and to your grandchildren Thank you for being here, you are the best thing that ever happened in my life, I wish you well as you walk through the journey of life.
